Wings of Eagles

By: Marlene Custer

Recently my husband and I learned of an eagle’s nest not far from us.  Eagles are rather rare in our area, so we embarked on our own little adventure.  Sure enough, driving several miles out of town and turning onto a dusty dirt road, we found a small viewing platform with arrows pointing to the direction of the nest.  We got our binoculars focused, and watched in awe as three little eaglets hopped around the gigantic nest, opening and flapping their powerful wings.

Why are we attracted to eagles?  An eagle in flight is awesome to see.  It is not uncommon for eagles to fly over 200 miles in a day.  Wouldn’t you love to fly like an eagle, and have such enviable strength?  Well, you can!  The Bible tells us that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)

Perhaps you are going through a particularly difficult time right now.  Call upon Jesus.  He cares!  Peter reminds us to “cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you,” (1Peter 5:7 ESV) and the Apostle Paul encourages us to not give up, “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day,” (2nd Corinthians 4:16 ESV). That renewal comes from opening His Word and allowing Him to calm your heart.

“Jesus, please open my eyes as I read Your Word.  Help me to trust every word.  Direct my thoughts to make the right decisions in the situation I find myself today.  I pray for Your peace to renew my strength.  Amen”
