Thank you, but…

How do you respond to a compliment?

Do you say, “Thank you” and leave it?  Or do you deflect it, “Yes, but…” and twist the praise around until it is no longer positive?

I was out with friends and throughout the conversation it was obvious that no one could hear a compliment and accept it as truth.  Instead, we would qualify it or turn it around to a negative.  A dear and very wise friend finally said, “We need to stop putting ourselves down!”  How right she is!  Maybe it stems from a desire to be humble or a lack of confidence.  Whatever the reason, maybe it is time to see our fineness instead of our faults.

Just for today, choose to see yourself as…

STRONG

She is clothed with strength and dignity, she laughs without fear of the future.  Proverbs 31:25

BEAUTIFUL

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

VALUED

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?  Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs on your head are all numbered.  Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7

PROTECTED

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.  Psalm 46:5

LOVED

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8

Let these truths sink in and take root in your heart and mind!  I pray that you see your strength, beauty and value not just today, but every day.

With love…Debbie
