7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:7
I was sitting by my garden and reading my Bible when I read the passage above. I really connected with it since I have been dealing with a lot of roots lately. I have been digging up weeds and unwanted plants in my garden. Some of these plants have very deep or expansive roots; making it difficult to remove. I have also been planting fresh flowers; a lot of these new flowers are young and have weak roots. I have to make sure that no weed grows next to them and overpower them; especially at the beginning.
It really made me think about a specific question: Where are my roots growing down into?
- I experienced a hardship lately that makes me sad, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Is my root growing down into sadness?
- The same hardship makes me frustrated about the future. Is my root growing down into hopelessness?
- I had to deal with a person and situation that still makes me upset. Is my root growing down to bitterness?
- I witness a big injustice in a ministry that I partake on, I am still very angry about it. Is my root growing down into anger?
How about you? Where are your roots growing down into?
I have decided that in the next month I will pay special attention to where my roots are growing into. I want to make sure that my roots grow down into Him. I want to make sure that those roots are strong and not chocked up by weeds. I want my life built on Him. I want my faith to grow strong in truth and to overflow with thankfulness. Will you join me?
