Why Should I Even Consider Giving My Life to God?

He has shown us Himself –

What may be known about God is plain to us because God made it plain.  Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

So we know there is a God, (No excuses – we know!)

He is powerful

He is unbelievably smart & wise.  Check out DNA if you doubt that.

He is so good – just look at the beautiful world, the great food, the changing seasons, the stars in the universe and more….

He loves us – This is how much God loved the world.  He gave his Son, his one and only Son.  And this is why; so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

He wants us to be in His family.  Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, and settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.  …He decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ.

Rule breaking or rule keeping isn’t the issue.  We have all broken the rules – so we are rule breakers.  Rule breakers don’t make it to heaven – family members do!  Jesus paid for everything we have done or will do wrong.  So the issue becomes, do we want to be in God’s family?

Why should we want to be in the family?  Isn’t that a stifling place with a lot of expectations and God telling you what you can and can’t do?

Let’s look at His offer.

First, He is a great God who is great to be around.

Second, He wants us around. (In the better than you can imagine – most wonderful family – anywhere).

Third, He has gifts to give, every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ.  He also gives us the Holy Spirit as a promise that we would be with him forever.  He gives us forgiveness for anything we have done or what has been done to us that might make us feel unworthy.  He gives us His peace and peace with Him.  He also promises to work in our life until we are like Him; full of love.

This isn’t like any love you have ever experienced.  This love is patient and kind.  It isn’t envious, boastful or proud.  It doesn’t dishonor others, it isn’t self-seeking or easily angered.  It doesn’t keep a record of other’s wrongs.  It doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  This love always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres.  It never fails.

But what about the rules?

The rules are protections to keep us safe.  He isn’t trying to deny us pleasure, quite the opposite in fact.  He wants us to know real pleasure, without horrid consequences.

But I don’t want to….

Go to church…a family reunion with the best family in the universe – really?!  A place where I can learn more about this wonderful God and all the amazing things He has done for us and will do for us.  A place where I can be around some really awesome sisters and brothers.

Be around those Christian hypocrites…Yes, these family members are like family members everywhere, some are really great (maybe so great that we feel like we can never be like them and that makes us feel bad).  Some are babies and act like babies.  Some are rebellious and act like disobedient kids.  But the good news is that God is patient with us all.  He is teaching all of us and we will get there eventually.  He wants us to be as patient with them as He was with us (that isn’t so much to ask).

Read the Bible… Yes, that book can be hard to understand – it is always a good idea to ask the author (God) to help you understand it.  And that Holy Spirit He gave you will teach you too.  But reading it is food – spiritual food that will help you grow into everything God has in mind for you and believe me He has big plans for you!  The Bible is also one of the ways (the biggest and most accurate way, that God can speak to you).

Pray…Seriously!  God just wants to talk with you.  He wants to hear about your day.  He wants to know what worries you and has you upset.  He wants to know if you see all the great things He is doing for you…all the time!  He wants to help you with everything.  He understands how hard this life is…Jesus lived it, remember.  He faced every temptation you faced, and He never, ever failed.  So, He can help you when you are tempted.  God is there for you always.  How can we not want to talk to our very best friend in the universe?!

Have God tell me what to do…Well, He does have big plans for your life, that is true.  You can’t image all the wonderful things he has planned for you to do, but I can tell you this, you are going to love it!  It is like getting to play with God.  Even when things are really hard, they turn out to be really good.  They will make you happy eventually, and they will make you like Jesus and that is guaranteed to make you happy!

Those some of the reasons you should consider giving your life to God.  And it is as easy as A, B, C.

A:  Admit you are a law breaker Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23

B:  Believe Jesus is Lord and God raised Him from the dead.  Romans 10:9-10

C:  Call upon the Name of the Lord. Romans 10:10
